Figma is now ready for iPhone 13 release.

Figma improved copy and paste to make it more consistent and predictable. Now you can replace selected objects with another object that you’ve copied to your clipboard (⇧⌥⌘V or Shift-Ctrl-Alt‑V), paste an object into multiple frames or groups simultaneously, and paste at the cursor location. To see how it all works, check out a playground file. (Figma launched this feature with a different shortcut, but changed it after listening to the community feedback.)

Students and Educators using the Education plan can now invite others to their teams and start collaborating immediately. Collaborators have a 7‑day grace period to verify their education status. See also a video on how to set up your Figma Education plan.

People now can be @mentioned in Community comments. FigJam is improved on an iPad (hey, maybe Figma is next?). Style picker lets you select what libraries are enabled. And a few more improvements for admins of Organizations and Teams.

You can press Shift while clicking on individual publishing checkboxes to select ranges. You’re now able to open library files from the Libraries modal.

Plugin parameters (currently in beta) provide a faster way to build more powerful plugins by using quick actions to accept user input, eliminating the need to create your own UI. Both plugins I built in the past don’t have any UI, so this would be a great way to easily add some configuration options.

It’s finally possible to move published components between files without breaking links to instances in the design system! Besides that, now you can swap out an entire library in a single bulk action and find the right component in a quick search modal. Fantastic update that I’m really excited about. By default, drop shadows are no longer displayed through transparent areas of objects. Check out this thread by Rogie on how this feature came to life.

Hold Shift to draw straight lines when using the Pencil tool in Figma and FigJam.

Default Pencil and text colors are now smarter. When you draw or type, they are now black or white, depending on the background. Miggie shows this behavior in action.

Figma made the tab keyboard shortcuts in the desktop app more intuitive. Press ⌘1 on Mac, Ctrl+1 on Windows to open the file browser, and ⌘2, 3, 4 or Ctrl+2, 3, 4 to open subsequent tabs.

The missing font dialog now includes a layer count if you hover over an icon, making it easier to see the impact of a missing font.

Pressing K in Figma now consistently brings up Scale mode but doesn’t exit it, so it’s more predictable.

Cleaned up measuring lines when duplicating objects — you’ll now see two instead of four. And, they added some logic so it’s harder to accidentally not duplicate something, even if you let go of the key too early.
