If you don’t have 30 minutes to watch Dylan’s keynote, check out the What’s New in Figma page showcasing all announced features in a beautiful way.
Figma CEO Dylan Field kicked off Config 2022 with opening remarks and the launch of 15 new features, ranging from favoriting files to a new version of Auto Layout. At this point, I’m more excited about Dylan’s keynotes than Apple’s. Love how every Config makes our lives better by addressing real problems and small annoyances.
Six new shortcuts to change the view, navigate layers, and paste to replace.
Tabs now show new Figma, FigJam, and prototype favicons. Using an emoji in the file name automatically updates the default icon. Tabs also can be pinned to the left side of the tab bar or dragged out of the existing window to create a new one (super useful for keeping an actual-size preview while working zoomed in).
“These fixes improve the user experience for users who only have access to the branch, so that they can more effectively work within the branch and are less likely to face errors.”
More ways for teams to customize their workspace and freely express themselves: organize documents into Sections, more colors (including adding your own!), sticky note resizing, and more.
A few typographic updates: the new default font size list (finally including 16px default on the web!), Inter replaced Roboto as a default font, and support for faux superscripts and subscripts that can be applied to any font — check out Tom Lowry’s behind the scenes deep dive for juicy details.
Manually update widgets that are already placed on a board.
Several updates to make brainstorming and diagraming even easier in FigJam: a simplified toolbar, text resizing, sticky stamps and highlights, image borders, and more.
Performance updates are always welcome: “We’ve reduced the amount of CPU usage FigJam and Figma take up. Large files with many users should run more smoothly now.”
A few improvements to the file browser. As you type in the search field, Figma now shows a preview of matching search results, sectioned off by resource type (files, projects, people, and so on). There is also supposed to be a new filter by a file type, but I couldn’t find it 🤷♂️
…and a few improvements to the plugins and widgets menus in FigJam.
A few bug fixes related to prototypes.
“Now Org Admin will also see secret teams in the Teams tab of the admin console, so they have visibility into all the teams that exist in the organization. The content in secret teams will remain secret to its members.”
A large shipment of small updates to Figma and FigJam. The community file is the best way to learn about all of them with demos and examples, but see also the blog post with a list of updates.
This is really exciting! Many iPad users already know and enjoy the Figurative app, but having an official app will be amazing.
