“Use link previews to add sources of inspiration and useful context to your FigJam file. Paste links of rich media from other websites — like videos, articles, or documents — and FigJam will turn them into a preview on your board. Figma will even make some link previews interactive, which allow you to pan around Figma design files and city maps, or stream music and videos while you work in FigJam.”

Ryhan Hassan, Product Designer at Figma, on comments redesign: ​“To help teams manage and incorporate feedback throughout the design process, we’re introducing updates to comments in Figma and FigJam. These changes are designed to encourage collaborators to share comments and understand how to give better feedback, while helping designers more easily act on the input they receive.” Also, see his Twitter thread on design details and Christa Simon’s thread on design research.

Fantastic redesign of comments — now the pins are visible by default and form clusters when you zoom out. They’ve also added search, sorting, reactions, and selecting an area to comment on. Show or hide pins with Shift-C.

Plugin parameters are out of beta — open the quick action bar with Cmd-/ (Ctrl-/ on Windows), enter the plugin name, and select from a list of plugin-specific parameters or enter a custom value. Great way to speed up work with the keyboard.

So many great things in a single announcement! New pricing starting February 2022 ($0–5/editor/month), open sessions, widgets, plugins, embedded content, as well as new shapes, code blocks, and templates.

Branching is now available to teams on the Organization plan. It was announced in April at Config 2021, but according to Rasmus Andersson, it’s been in the making for 5 years. The lack of branches was the main issue when my team switched from Sketch and Abstract to Figma in 2018, so I hope it will become available on the Professional plan one day.

You can now mix different text sizes in the same text box, sticky note, or shape.

You can now adjust the spacing between listed items in the type details panel. Finally! Such a small but important change — I had to imitate this with an Auto Layout in the past.

Figma improved copy and paste to make it more consistent and predictable. Now you can replace selected objects with another object that you’ve copied to your clipboard (⇧⌥⌘V or Shift-Ctrl-Alt‑V), paste an object into multiple frames or groups simultaneously, and paste at the cursor location. To see how it all works, check out a playground file. (Figma launched this feature with a different shortcut, but changed it after listening to the community feedback.)
